Frequently Asked Questions for Senior Clients

As I have photographed seniors over the years, there are some questions and topics that pop up frequently. Many of these are things that I cover on my information and welcome emails, but I also wanted to share some of the answers here. I believe an informed client is one that will feel confident and beautiful on the day of their session, and that will reflect in their images. Here are some of our more frequently asked questions and my thoughts:

What do I do if I have braces, glasses, or skin blemishes? I know these things can be really hard to manage in senior or junior year, and many students wish that they could have perfect skin, teeth, or eyesight. I understand! I don’t edit out eyeglasses, but I work hard to make sure there is no awkward glare on your face. I also do minimal skin editing to ensure that you don’t look overly edited or airbrushed. I know that blemishes or braces seem like such a focal point in your shoot, but I promise you that they’re not as prominent as they seem. Overly edited images tend to look very one dimensional, plastic-ey, or really lack the texture and light that make you look like yourself! Please let me know if you have a concern about your appearance so we can help you ease your mind and explain what things can be edited and what things can’t.

I want to include my musical instrument/car/hobby item! Is that possible? Yes! We love when you bring things into your session that represent parts of you that are your passions and interests. It adds depth and interest to your photoshoot and makes it about the person you are. We are happy to include anything from pets to cars, but we do ask that you let us know what you have in mind. Please don’t show up the day of with a surprise prop, because it throws off the session and can even be a safety issue with animals. Please bring up any of these ideas to me when you book with me, and I will be able to tailor the session to exactly what you need! Each session is customized to you and your needs Giving me a heads up allows me to plan the best session!

I want senior photos that don’t look like everyone else’s. Can you give me that? Yes! I encourage all my prospective clients to review my portfolio and previous blogs. You will get a good idea of what my editing style and locations look and feel like. Then, we can go from there and decide what things we can do to make it specific to you! Although some locations here locally are my favorite and I shoot multiple sessions at them, I strive to personalize every session and recommend that a senior client carefully review the style and decide first and foremost if that is right for them. Then, we can work together to make sure you have all the elements you want.

I hate posing, and feel awkward. I know this can feel overwhelming, but I am here to help you every step of the way. I have lots of prepared poses that I can guide you through, and can also offer cues and other pointers. You may surprise yourself and find that you’re a more natural poser than you may think. Many of my clients discover that it’s easier than they built it up to be in their minds, and that they actually enjoy posing with natural moments like walking and sitting. Don’t worry about being a “model”, instead just focus on being yourself and it always works out in the end.

Please reach out if you have additional questions. I’m an open book, and love to help you think through solutions!
