“Photos are not our thing…what should I do?”

I’ve heard this time and time again. Clients tell me that they “just aren’t photo people”, or that their kiddos hate stepping in front a lens. Usually, they also add that they haven’t had their photos done in years and years, and they have no idea how to pose or choose outfits. This is totally understandable. As parents, we have a lot in our “mental load” and portraits seem like something that can be bumped down the to-do list. I’d really encourage you to think these things through if you’re someone who typically puts off that annual shoot:

-You don’t have to be a model or know how to pose! Trust me, I don’t shoot supermodels. I photograph regular people from all walks of life, and I help them pose and feel confident. It might look like only experienced people are having their portraits done but I assure you that’s not the case. From infants all the way up to grandparents, I can help anyone pose and even have a great time while doing it!

-There are no “non-photogenic” people to me. I love helping everyone who comes to me feel confident and beautiful, no matter who they are. I promise you that I never judge anyone from the outset, and I truly LIVE for the moments when I get to see people absolutely light up in front of the camera, or when they receive their images, and see themselves as others see them. It’s something special, and it’s not limited to one type of person. I promise.

-Little kids can learn to love portraits: It’s one of the big myths that small children can’t enjoy a photo session. I have many little ones who truly love coming to see me for their annual session, and that’s because it’s learned behavior. When your family has a wonderful, happy experience, or your senior enjoys amazing senior photos…well, that’s contagious. It sets a positive tone for the rest of the family. I encourage parents of small children to speak positively about the photo session, and create other happy memories around it by making it an ice cream day, or going out to dinner.

-You don’t have to know everything to be successful: That’s why you are hiring a professional (me)! I walk you through the whole process, from booking your shoot to viewing your curated and customized gallery at the end. I love the families and senior that I am lucky enough to work with, and I never take it for granted that I’m the one entrusted to capture your milestones and memories.

Let’s connect…photo sessions don’t have to be “your thing”, but they CAN become an incredible memory for your family.
