Bring Your Future into the Present

Your high school years are filled with important milestones, and one of the most significant moments in your life is graduation! Although it’s a pivotal transition to your future, that future can look different for every senior. Whether you are attending college, a trade school, or entering a career, this time deserves to be celebrated and remembered. When planning out your senior session, incorporating details about your future plans can add depth and meaning to your shoot. Here are some of my best ideas for bringing your aspirations and dreams into your upcoming senior session:

-Include photos of your cap and gown: I offer cap and gown minis for seniors for a reason! Photos of your cap and gown are special and also much easier than trying to get images of you in them on the actual graduation day when things can be hectic and hurried. Cap and gown minis also allow you to wear those important pieces more than once and to really enjoy the moment.

-College clothing or pennants: If you are choosing a college route after high school, consider bringing a t-shirt or hoodie with your future school choices. Including a college banner, pennant or clothing can be a fun way to announce to relatives or friends where you are attending, but most of all, it can represent your excitement about your upcoming adventure. If you are choosing an university for athletics, you could even bring your uniform or equipment to celebrate that.

-Trade school or vocational school: If you are choosing a trade or vocational school after high school, you can include your tools, equipment, or uniform in your images. It’s great to show a visual representation of your chosen trade, and your readiness to embark on a successful career path. This also applies if you are going straight into the workforce. For example, if you’re aspiring to be a chef, include a chef’s hat and utensils. If you’re aiming for a career in healthcare, consider a stethoscope or a lab coat. These props will convey your passion and enthusiasm for your chosen profession.

-Graduation announcements, no matter your future path: Use some of your photos for graduation announcements. This way, you can share your achievements and your future plans with friends and family in a creative and personal way. Share your unique journey with pride, and remember that graduation in itself is a milestone. Not every student is college-bound, and some opt to take a gap year to travel or fulfill family commitments. No matter what you’ve chosen, graduation remains of the same importance.

Incorporating your college, career, or trade school plans into your senior photo session allows you to capture the excitement and anticipation of this transformative phase in your life. These photos will serve as a reminder of your accomplishments and inspire you to chase your dreams. Your senior year is a time for reflection, but it’s also a time for looking forward with enthusiasm, and your photos should capture this beautiful balance! I am so thrilled to work with seniors from all walks of life, and who are pursuing all kinds of futures, and I love capturing them all!
