Everyone’s got their own style. It’s part of what makes each of us unique, and also what makes the earth such an interesting place to live! Your senior session is the perfect way to show off your personal style, but how best do you fit that into your senior session? It can be quite a task trying to figure that out, but it’s so worth the effort. Here are a few of my tips for fitting your style into your wardrobe, to ensure that the person in your senior photos is truly you.

-Create your own personal brand: All this means is that you should know what words accurately describe your style. If you have no clue where to begin, start with some easy adjectives that hit the mark for you, like “fun-loving, carefree, eclectic and warm”, or “chic, refined, elegant and timeless”. If nothing’s coming to mind, think of a look that you’d like to have, or the personal style of someone you admire. Hold it up against your own personality, and get rid of anything that you feel just isn’t you. You’ll be left with something that’s truly a part of yourself!
-Make use of your family history: Some of the most beautiful things I own are heirlooms. In your family, you have more heirlooms than you think you have, and they could be just a closet away! Modern style actually includes a lot of vintage items, and you could get ahead of the curve by borrowing items from your parent’s or grandparent’s wardrobe. It may sound crazy, but they just might have some fresh looks you could fit into your own personal style, and it has the boon of being a part of your family history. Keep it going by (politely) raiding your family’s closets!

-Utilize your accessories: Accessories, especially personalized ones, are the perfect accent to your style. It could be a small necklace or a couple bracelets, but it’ll say a lot about who you are. Think about ways you can channel your passions into your accessories, or wear something inspired by your favorite movie stars or characters! Think about the things that you love most – it could be your best friends, reading, or traveling, – and figure out a way to wear it around your neck.
-Lean on your inspirations: Think of the person whose style you just can’t get enough of; what do you love most about them? Draw inspiration from your own wardrobe by borrowing from their style! Who you look up to says a lot about you, so following after their own unique look will tell the world a lot about who you are. This doesn’t have to be a person, however, it could be a place too! Think of your dream destination, and incorporate some of their culture into your own style.

-Be true to you: This is the most important tip, and it’s one that we should never lose sight of. No matter how much you’re layering in bits and pieces of your favorite fashions, if they’re not true to your own personality, it’ll look nothing like you. It might sound like a lot of work to fit your style into your wardrobe, but chances are, you’ve been doing it for years, all by following this one rule of thumb: if you like it, wear it! It doesn’t get simpler than that.
