When it comes to a successful senior photography session, I always believe that preparation really makes the difference. Yes, there are some things you can’t prepare for, such as the weather, your excitement (or nerves!) or other things that happen on your big day. By preparing early and thoroughly, you can ensure that your amazing, anticipated senior photoshoot goes just the way you’ve always dreamed that it would. Here are five ways you can prepare for your shoot, starting TODAY!
-Shop early for your favorite pieces: Don’t wait until the week before your session to square away your wardrobe. Unless you plan on making major changes with your health/weight before your session, you should start shopping as early as possible so you can really search for the pieces you love and feel confident in. You want time to find the best pair of ankle boots or amazing heels, or that boho maxi you’ve been envisioning! It also allows you to find great sales or to spread out your clothing budget!
-Ask all the questions you have: Don’t be afraid to ask me questions about your senior session. I’d rather answer your fears, anxieties, and concerns so that we can find a solution, rather than waiting till afterwards to discover that you needed more direction or help! I’m also thrilled to help guide you through any part of the process, from your initial contact all the way until you receive your images.
-Budget and plan for your purchasing: Our average client invests around $750 in their senior collections, and we know that amount can be a challenge for some families. We recommend saving for this average investment cost before you book your session, and spreading it out over a few months by setting aside some money each month the year before your graduation. You’ll feel less stressed when it’s time to pay, and you or your parent will be able to manage the other expenses that come with preparing for college.
-Ladies, get proper undergarments: I don’t know if I can stress this enough, but undergarments are a crucial part of your senior wardrobe. I have seen one too many stray bra straps, the wrong color items with sheer tops, or clothing that is see-through when the light hits it. If you’re unsure what size or style undergarments you need, you can get fitted at a lingerie store. They will often be able to measure and fit you correctly, and can even recommend something if you need a strapless or backless bra for a certain top or dress. Then, walk in front of a light source and in front of a full-length mirror. You will avoid any fashion faux-pas and go into your session fully confident!
-Think of one thing that you are passionate about: If you’re a musician, athlete, or bookworm, you may have one special item to include in your shoot: your dance shoes, your favorite novel, or your varsity jacket, for example. Please let me know ahead of time, and we can dream up a way to incorporate such a special thing, and it will set your session apart in an unique and beautiful way. You will be able to look back on your images in years to come, and remember that part of your life!
I can’t wait to meet you, and to make your session amazing. I believe every client deserves the experience of a lifetime, and you can that started HERE!
